Our Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

At HMC, we believe that transformative educational moments can only take place against a backdrop of safety and inclusivity. Our definition of safety extends beyond the physical, encompassing all of the other modes of safety that shape how we move through the world. As such, HMC is committed to maintaining a caring and healthy environment for all members of our community.

For many involved in HMC (delegates, faculty, and staff alike), the notion of American democracy elicits complex and often contradictory feelings: anger at past and present structural injustices, pride in generations-old or newly-christened belonging, hope for all that this nation could be. Our goal, within every committee session, is neither to erase any of those emotions nor to present a single vision of America and its government. Rather, we aim to teach students how to utilize the foundation of every truly effective bipartisan relationship: the acceptance and celebration of difference. We hope you’ll join us in our mission to make HMC a more equitable place.
